Autism Diagnostic Assessment in 3 steps

Step one

Initial Autism and Emotional Mental Health

You'll complete questionnaires and a short task at home before meeting the assessor for a friendly interview and further assessment.

You'll gain valuable information about your emotional wellbeing. And, you will obtain enough understanding to decide if investing in a full assessment for autism is required.

Step two

You will have two appointments.

Your first appointment takes around 1 hour. This assessment uses  the ADOS-2, a gold standard diagnostic tool approved by NHS National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines and  includes a series of tasks and exercises.

In your second appointment we work with someone close to you, for example a parent or someone who has known you since childhood.

This assessment uses ADI-R, which has a series of questions and takes about 2 ½ hour to complete.

The ADI-R, or Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised, is a structured interview where we ask questions about your behaviour and development. It focuses on areas such as social interaction, communication skills, and repetitive behaviours.

To increase access, the appointments can take place online or in person.

Step three

Review of the data and report

In line with best practice your assessor will discuss the data from the assessments so an accurate diagnosis is made.

In some cases the assessment might conclude:

  • The results meet the criteria for a diagnosis of autism or ASD
  • Autism is not present
  • There are autistic traits, but not sufficient to meet the criteria for autism.

Whether autism is present or not, we will take time to explain your diagnosis in full.

You will receive a comprehensive report describing the outcome sent by a secure email.

You can share the documents with your school, college, employer or GP as evidence to access support.

We will invite you to a 30 minute appointment to discuss the outcome and give you our recommendations.

To increase access, the appointment can take place online or in person.
